Though not unexpected, the passing of Steve Jobs sure was a kick to the gut, wasn't it? His innovation and particularly - his wonderful sense of design were really inspiring.

And this being a blog...I suppose I'll (humbly, I hope) make this all about me...

I created quite a few pen and ink stipple illustrations for Apple back in the mid-80's...they were one of my very first significant accounts (through Chiat/Day Advertising). We're talking 1983-84ish, and I remember not having a clue what the heck these oddball gadgets were that I was rendering. I mean, I knew they were computers (or had something to do with computers), but to my eye - they were just strangely shaped objects with LOTS of buttons and keys and knobs. It would be another dozen years before I actually brought my first computer into my own studio.

I worked on a bunch of their ads, and created individual illustrations of just about all of their available products at the time - to be used as "ad slicks" (look it up). It's pretty weird how antiquated many of them seem now. What a terrific gig for a young illustrator just starting out. I was in my 20’s when all this began...about the same age as Steve.
