“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” opened for the holidays in 2005. I was just putting the finishing touches (dots?) on my portrait of Daniel Radcliffe when I received a "stop the presses" call from Joe Morgenstern - The Wall Street Journal's film critic. He had just screened "Walk the Line" which was to be released that same weekend, and was duly impressed with its lead performances. It was decided that his review of this film would take the prioritized first position in his column that week...and I created a quick ("eleventh hour") hedcut of Joaquin Phoenix which bumped Radcliffe from the coveted front page. Of course, a Harry Potter film had been featured on 3 prior cover pages, and since the series was at its mid-way point - there would likely be new opportunities to feature a Radcliffe portrait down the road...
